How to Structure an IRAC Conclusion

Write a Real Conclusion.

This is the most neglected part of IRAC in terms of explanation. There’s no need for a conclusion to be long, but here’s a quick and flexible system for a coherent and persuasive conclusion.

  1. Give a brief summary of how you got to your conclusion for that side. A one to two sentence summary is all you need. You can also point to a key fact here, if that’s appropriate.

  2. Add a bit of policy or history that supports this outcome overall. How does the theory or philosophy or evolution of the rule support the outcome you’ve chosen?

  3. Don’t forget remedies and relief. State what’s appropriate or available given the proofs provided.
